Tripartite Maritime Training Award (Engine) Pre-Sea Preparation Training Course

Course Overview

The Tripartite Maritime Training Award (TMTA) is a career development programme that prepares Singaporeans and Permanent Residents to join the maritime industry and pursue their aspirations as Marine Engineers onboard ocean-going ships.

The Pre-Sea Preparation Training Course, aka Phase 1, prepares students for their shipboard training. They will attend full-time classroom-based training and practical lessons for four months, covering a series of modules listed below. The course is in accordance with the provisions of regulation III/1.2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 (STCW 1978).

Bite-sized e-learning nuggets and quizzes form the bulk of the course material for teaching and learning. These e-learning nuggets promote differentiated learning for students with diverse backgrounds. The course leverages on the use of technology for teaching, learning and assessment, with hands on simulator exercises in the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator. The course is facilitated by senior practitioners in their pursuit of knowledge, skills, and safe working practices required in the industry. The Student - Teacher ratio is presently 20:1.
